FAQs

Q: What is a first counselling session like with you?

A: Our first session(s) will be spent getting a sense of each other and sussing out compatibility to see if we are a good fit to do the type of work you’re interested in doing. We will discuss your hopes and goals for counselling and begin to get to know a bit about who you are, what’s important to you, and what you might be looking to change or work on. I invite you to bring any questions you have about me, personal or professional, and I’ll answer them to the best of my abilities and in accordance with my boundaries.

Q: How much does a session cost?

A: For an individual, a 50 minute session is $150 and a 75 minute session is $210. For a couple/pair of two, a 50 minute session is $170 and a 75 minute session is $230. For a group of three clients, a 75 minute session is also $230.

Q: How do I book?

A: Haha. Actually though, click any of the buttons on the site that say “book” and they will take you to my booking website, littlelanterncounselling.janeapp.com. Book an appointment at any time that I’ve made available in my calendar and create an account. Alternatively, you’re welcome to email me to set up a first session, through my contact page or to mandy@littlelanterncounselling.com. I will still ask that you create a Jane account eventually, as I will be using it to meet with you via their secure online video platform.

Q: How do I pay?

A: I accept payments through credit card on the Jane app or by e-transfer to mandy@littlelanterncounselling.com.

Q: Will my insurance cover our sessions?

A: As a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BCACC, my services are covered under most insurance plans in Canada. I recommend checking your specific extended health benefits plan to confirm this and to find out the amount your provider is willing to cover.

Q: Do you offer low-cost or sliding scale fees?

A: I have a few reduced rate spots reserved on my caseload for clients who have financial barriers to care, but they are currently filled. As my new practice grows, I will add more sliding scale spots to offer to low-income folx. Until then, please feel free to contact me for a referral for free or low-cost counselling.

Q: What if I can’t make an appointment?

A: Hey, life happens. If you are unable to make an appointment, please let me know as soon as possible, and give at least 24 hours notice by cancelling on Jane or emailing me at mandy@littlelanterncounselling.com. If you are unable to give 24 hours notice, you will be charged a late cancellation fee of 50% of the scheduled session cost. Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis for medical emergencies, etc. The cancellation fee will be charged to your credit card on file or paid by e-transfer before our next session is scheduled.

Q: What if I need help right now?

A: Please check out my resources page with links to several crisis lines that should be able to offer you the support you deserve right now.

And finally,

Q: Who are those beautiful kitties in your pictures?!

A: Oh, I’m so glad you asked! These are my loves, Dolly (L) and Romeo (R), who have been known to make (very) occasional cameos in the therapy room* ❤
